A passionate and active patron of the arts, Pulane maintains a deep and dynamic engagement with the global art ecosystem. She serves on the Global Council of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town and is a board member of the Smithsonian Museum of African Art in Washington DC. She is also a Global Patron of Art Basel, the premier international art fair staged annually in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong.

Her personal art collection is guided by a mission to redress the historic erasure and underrepresentation of contemporary African artists—particularly women—within the global art canon. Through collecting, she actively works to ensure these artists are situated within a more diverse and inclusive narrative of art history. Her approach reflects a dual commitment: the intellectual and technical dimensions of art, and the pure joy and aesthetic pleasure it offers. A tour of her collection offers insight into how collecting can both inspire joy and support a sustainable, self-sufficient African art ecosystem.

Event details

The Anglo American art and object collection is a combination of art collected over several decades through four different companies: Anglo American, de Beers Group, Anglo American Platinum and Kumba Iron Ore.

The collection comprises of 3600 works, with around 1000 pieces in the collection on display at the newly commissioned Rosebank offices. Although vast, the collection experienced an acquisition hiatus from the early 2000s until 2021 creating a significant gap in the collection’s representation of contemporary art. The collection now has a dedicated curator, Megan Scott, tasked with its cataloguing and digitisation, opening an exciting new chapter which will see the gradual procurement of significant works that reflect our contemporary South African and African art world.
