In Studio with Misheck Masamvu

Oscillating between abstraction and figuration, Misheck Masamvu’s practice reflects on history while
searching for a way of being in the world. Over the past five weeks, the Mutare-based artist, with Mutare
being a city in Zimbabwe, has been in residence in Johannesburg at the invitation of Goodman Gallery,
using the city as a site of observation, response, and encounter.
Members are invited to engage with the outcomes of this period, offering an intimate glimpse into
Masamvu’s studio practice and the ways his visual language shifts across place, time, and context. This
gathering brings a fragment of his Mutare studio into Johannesburg, opening a space for reflection on
process, presence, and transformation.
